Georgia plans to realize gas purchase deal with Iran in a month, the Head of General Department of CIS and Caucasus Countries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran Gholamreza Bagheri Moghaddam told IRNA Apr. 21.

Bagheri Moghaddam said Georgia has purchased a gas volume from Iran but they haven’t yet imported that.

“Georgia said they would realize the gas import in a month”.

He also said that Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili will visit Tehran the next week.

Managing Director of National Iranian Gas Export Company Alireza Kameli said last July that Iran and Georgia signed a deal for pumping 40 million cubic meters of gas to Georgia.

He said the agreement was signed with a Georgian private company, named Georgian International Energy Corporation, for a four-month test period.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s Deputy Energy Minister Mariam Valishvili told Trend last August that the Energy Ministry has no information on conclusion of contracts for the import of Iranian gas into the country.

Valishvili added that the Georgian government has not concluded any contracts for such gas supply.

“We have no idea about the volumes, which company signed a contract and the area from which the gas will be supplied,” she said.

At present, Azerbaijan is the main supplier of gas to Georgia. Small volumes are also supplied from Russia.
