An Iranian company has acquired technology to produce API 5L Seamless Line Pipe.
The American Petroleum Institute specification API 5L covers seamless and welded steel line pipe.
This kind of pipe is suitable for sour and sweet environments in oil and gas projects, according to Abdolreza Mahmoudpour, the manager of steel sheet manufacturing company Oxin Steel, IRNA news agency reported May 8.
Not only is Iran free of the need to import this kind of pipe, it can even export the domestically made product, he said.
He added that so far his company has delivered 5,000 tons of API pipe to the South Oil Company under a contract for 40,000 tons of pipe.
Producing these pipes domestically saves Iran $150 to $200 per ton, he noted, adding currently his company is also supplying mazut conveyance pipe of 1,100 kilometers to Jusk Port.
He said Iran is currently able to domestically produce 350,000 tons of these pipes each year.
