By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

Iran and Oman have agreed to link their bank payment systems, Iran's Central Bank (CBI) said May 23.

The issue was discussed during a meeting between CBI governor Valiollah Seif and his Omani counterpart Hamood Sangour al-Zadjali‎ in Muscat, where the sides established a committe to follow the mutual banking cooperation issues.

Based on the agreement, the bank cards of both countries will become integrated, so that citizens of both countries could use them in Iran and Oman.

Iran has recently signed similar memorandums of understanding(MoU) with Azerbaijan and Russia, as the hopes for connecting to international credit card services.

During Seif’s visit to Muscat, the two parties also agreed to boost correspondent banking relationships between commercial banks of Iran and Oman.

Usage of banking services in Oman in the field of LC and bank guarantees was also discussed during the meeting.

It was also agreed that Iranian Melli and Saderat banks to resume their activities in the Arabic country.

Earlier in March Seif and al-Zadjali signed a MoU with the aim to boost bilateral trade and training for Iranian bankers.

Last year Bank Muscat, Oman's largest bank, said it had received all regulatory approvals to open a representative office in Iran.
