Mobile penetration in Iran 104%

According to the latest report by Iran’s Ministry of ICT, the penetration of mobile phone in the country stands at 104 percent.

The penetration of mobile phones in the country had been registered at 40 percent in 2007.

The same report adds that 33 million Iranians, out of a population of nearly 90 million, use their cell phones to connect to the internet, Mehr news agency reported May 28.

The report further says that by March 20, close to 154.4 million SIM cards had been distributed in Iran. This is while only 83 million of the SIM cards are activated and the rest are available on the network.

Also, currently 33.2 million subscribers use internet bandwidth on their cell phones.

The country’s internet bandwidth, the report says, stands now at 743 gigabits per second, whereas it used to be 6 gigabits per second ten years ago.
