Iran and Tajikistan aim to increase the volume of rail transit, Ebrahim Mohammadi, the deputy director of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (IRIR), said.

A transit route to carry aluminum ingots from Tajikistan to Iranian southern port of Bandar Abbas will be activated in the near future, Mohammadi said, the official website of the Iranian railways reported.

He further said 5,000 tons of aluminum powder will be carried from Iran’s Jajarm plant in the country’s northeast to Tajikistan via railways every month as well. ‎

Also, one million tons of crude oil is planned to be transited to Tajikistan via railway every month, he added.

Iran has reached agreements with four Central Asian countries of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan on the transit of cargos from/to these countries via its territory.

Through this agreement, the transit of six kinds of goods, including fertilizers, sulfur, wheat, steel, and aluminum ingots via Iran will increase.
