By Mehdi Sepahvand – Trend:

A current low in Turkey-Iran trade is the result of the general economic atmosphere of the region as well as Turkey’s domestic political developments, according to Reza Kami, head of the Iran-Turkey Joint Trade Council.

Recently, Turkish authorities said that Turkey’s export to Iran has witnessed a fall of 41 percent.

The relapse in Iran-Turkey trade turnover can be felt, Kami said, ISNA news agency reported August 7.

Things depend on future developments and a certain trajectory cannot be envisaged at the present time, the official noted.

These statements come only one month after Iran’s ICT minister and chairman of Iran’s joint economic commission with Turkey, Mahmoud Vaezi said Tehran and Ankara have the potential to increase the value of their bilateral trade to $50 billion per year.

During his meeting with Turkey’s Minister of Economy Nihat Zeybekci in Tehran, Vaezi said that Iran and Turkey are currently trying to boost the value of their trade exchanges to $30 billion per year.
