Cars, food top Iran’s imports

Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization, affiliated with the country’s Industry, Mine and Trade ministry, has published its monthly trade report, which indicates that food and cars as well as car parts dominated Iran’s imports during the first four months of the current fiscal year (March 20-July 21).

Iran imported 11.3 million tons of goods, worth $15.813 billion during the 4-month period, which indicates 13.5 and 24 percent rise in terms of volume and value respectively, compared to the same period of preceding year, according to the report.

Car parts worth $904 million (96 percent increase), passenger cars worth $842 million (77 percent increase), rice worth $603 million (27 percent increase), corn fodder worth $487 million (42 percent increase), modems and phones worth $407 million(65 percent increase), soybean worth $338 million(7 percent increase), medical drugs worth $336 million( 10 percent increase) and sugar worth $278 million(1743 percent increase) were the main imported goods of the Islamic Republic in the 4-month period.
