Iran’s fishery exports up by 60%

Iran plans to export 30,000 tons of trout to the neighboring countries during the current fiscal year (to be end March 20, 2018), Hassan Salehi, head of Iran Fisheries Organization, said.

Salehi who was speaking at an economic meeting in the country's north western Gilan provicne on Sept. 10 said that the figure stood at 10,000 tons in last fiscal year (ended March 20, 2017), according to Iranian media.

He further said that Iran's total fishery export has witnessed a rise by 60 percent during the first 4 months of current fiscal year (March 20-July 21), meanwhile the imports has decreased by 30 percent without unveiling further details.

Iran exported $412 million worth of fishery products in the last fiscal year (ended March 20), he added.
The Islamic Republic plans to export $450-$500 million worth of fisheries in the current fiscal year.

Iran’s fishery output stood at 460,000 tons in the last fiscal year.

About 200,000 Iranians are active in about 70,000 aquaculture and fishing centers.

Iran has the capacity to produce 1 million tons of fish in cages in the Caspian Sea, the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman, according to the country’s fishery officials.
