Cargo transit via Iran up by 27%

Over 4.857 million tons of goods were transited through Iran in the first half of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20-Sept. 22), Reza Nafisi, an official with Iran Road Maintenance & Transportation Organization (RMTO), said.

The volume of transited goods indicates an increase by 27 percent year-on-year, Nafisi, director general of Transit and International Transportation Department in RMTO, said, the organization’s public relation office reported Oct. 9.

About 1.540 million tons of transited goods were oil products and 3.317 million tons were non-oil products, Nafisi added.

He further said that fuels topped the list of transited goods in the 6-month period, followed by cotton, agricultural and food products.

Shahid Rajaee port was the top border point in terms of cargo transit (1.704 million tons or 35 percent of total transit) followed by Parvizkhan (20.8 percent) and Bazargan border checkpoints (10.1 percent), the official added.

The UAE was the main destination of the goods transited into Iran, he said, adding that Iraq was the main source.

He said that 32 border checkpoints involved in cargo transit in the period.
