Banking issues slow down Iran-Turkmenistan trade

Iran’s trade chamber looks to expand banking ties and ease the visa regime with Turkmenistan, in a move to speed up trade volume between the two countries.
Describing the banking issues and visa regime as the most significant obstacles to the expansion of bilateral ties with Turkmenistan, Mohammadreza Karbasi, the deputy-head of Iran Trade Chamber said that his organization in collaboration with the Turkmen counterparts are making efforts to remove the obstacles, IRNA news agency reported.
Describing the economic cooperation between the two countries as “strategic”, he added that Iran considers Turkmenistan as a path to export its products to the Central Asia.
According to Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, the volume of bilateral trade between the two countries stood at $574 million in 2016.
