Goods transit through Iran continues to rise

Over 5.4 million tons of goods were transited through Iran in the first seven months of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20-Oct. 22), Reza Nafisi, an official with Iran Road Maintenance & Transportation Organization (RMTO), said.

The volume of transited goods indicates an increase by 23 percent year-on-year, Nafisi, director general of Transit and International Transportation Department in RMTO, said, the organization’s public relation office reported.

About 1.6 million tons of transited goods were oil products and 3.8 million tons were non-oil products, Nafisi added.

He further said that fuels topped the list of transited goods in the 6-month period, followed by textiles, car parts, rice, rubber and cotton.

Shahid Rajaee port was the top border point in terms of cargo transit (1.95 million tons or 36.1 percent of total transit) followed by Parvizkhan (19 percent) and Bazargan border checkpoints (10.5 percent), the official added.

The UAE was the main destination of the goods transited into Iran, he said, adding that Iraq was the main source, from where oil products transited to the UAE.

He said that 32 border checkpoints involved in cargo transit in the period.
