By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

Iran and EU signed a memorandum of understanding, aimed at export of dairy products from the Islamic Republic to the European Union, Federation of Iranian Food Associations announced Nov. 14.

The deal was signed between Iran’s Dairy Industries Society and European Dairy Association, Reza Bakeri, secretary of Iran’s Dairy Industries Society, said.

Under the deal the two sides will cooperate in the field of experience and know-how transfer.

This cooperation document envisages exchange of experience and know-how in order for improving the quality of raw milk and the compliance of Iran's dairy products with the EU standards (CE), Bakeri said, adding that after that Iranian dairy products can be exported to this union and other countries.

He added that the transfer of EU experience in increasing the annual per capita consumption of dairy products in Iranian households is another issue predicted in the memorandum.

Food trade between Iran and the European Union has increased by 94 percent since the nuclear deal between Iran and world powers was signed in July 2015, according to the head of EU’s Agriculture and Rural Development Commission Head Phil Hogan, who headed a 70-member delegation from 19 European countries to the Iranian capital, Tehran on Nov. 11.

The delegates discussed possible cooperation in joint investments, exports and imports, transfer of technology, and training courses in an economic forum hosted by Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (TCCIMA)’s Committee for Agriculture, Water and Food Industries.

An early 2017 EU agro-food trade value report said that 28 members of the union had exported worth 728 million euros of products to Iran in the year to the report release. It added in the meantime Iran had exported worth 467 million euros of such products to the EU, putting the trade balance at 261 in favor of the union.
