Iran’s export performance based on sectors

The industrial production has appeared as the best performing sub-sector of Iran’s non-oil economy concerning the value of exports.

Iran exported $9.633 billion worth of industrial products during the first seven months of current fiscal year (started March 20), equal to 39 percent of country’s overall non-oil exports including gas condensates.

However, the value of the exports witnessed a fall by 9 percent compared to the same period of the preceding year, according to the data, released by Trade Promotion Organization of Iran.

The Islamic Republic exported 22.843 million tons of industrial products, indicating a fall by 20.5 percent year on year.

The petrochemical products ranked second among Iran’s non-oil exports in the period. During the 7-month period, Iran’s petrochemical exports decreased by 0.85 percent to $7.801 billion.

Meanwhile the volume of petrochemical exports registered a fall by 8.5 percent to 15.845 million tons in the same span of time.

Iran exported 10.491 million tons of gas condensate, worth $4.115 billion, which, compared to the same period last year, indicates a 2.4 percent decrease in volume and value.

Agricultural products stood at the next place with a share of 7.5 percent from total non-oil exports’ value.

The value of Iran’s agricultural exports accounted to $1.839 billion or 7.4 percent less, year on year.

The volume of the exported agricultural products 2.267 million tons, 13.3 percent less in comparison to the 7-month period of the preceding year.

Iran also exported 16.606 million tons of minerals valued at $1.073 billion during the first seven months of the current fiscal year (March 20-Oct. 22).

The country’s minerals exports registered the highest growth among various sectors with an increase rate of 45.4 percent in terms of value.

However the volume growth was only 5.3 percent, compared to 15.76 million tons of exports in the first seven month period of last fiscal year.

The Islamic Republic also exported $249 million worth of hand-made carpets and handicrafts in the 7-month period, 32 percent more year on year.

Hand-made carpets and handicrafts and minerals were the only products among Iranian exported goods that witnessed value growth compared to the preceding year.

In the 7-month period, Iran’s total non-oil exports, which include gas condensate as well, stood at $24.71 billion, which indicates a 2.2 percent fall.
