Iranian government has invested about $1 billion for developing the first phase of Shahid Behshti Port in the southern port city of Chabahar.

Behrouz Aghaee, the head of ports and maritime organization of Sistan and Balouchestan, has said that Chabahar port enjoys a proper opportunity for transporting goods and cargo.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, the official said that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will inaugurate the port soon.

Chabahar is capable of reducing transportation costs to Central Asia and Afghanistan, the official mentioned.

He added that the capacity of Shahid Beheshti Port is expected to reach 8.5 million tons after the inauguration of its first phase.

According to the official, the port is now capable of receiving 100,000-ton ships.

About 1.1 million tons of wheat is expected to be transported to Afghanistan from India through Chabahar.
