Iran’ imports increase by 22%

Iran imported 30.49 million tons of goods worth $42.81 billion during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year (started March 20, 2017).

The figure indicates a 22 percent increase in terms of value and 10 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period of the preceding year, the Iranian Customs Administration said.

Car parts, worth $1.4 billion, topped the list of Iran's imported goods during the 10-month period( 3 percent of overall imports in terms of value).

Corn fodder ($1.25 billion), rice ($1.03 billion), soybean meal ($775 million) and cars with 1,500-2,000 cc engines ($683 million) were the other goods mainly imported to the Islamic Republic in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year (March 20-Jan. 21).

China was the main exporter of goods to Iran in the mentioned period. Iran imported 3.81 million tons of goods, worth $10.23 billion from China in the 10-month period.

After China, the UAE (4.98 million tons of goods, worth $7.787 billion), South Korea (1.215 million tons worth $2.974 billion), Turkey (1.542 million tons worth $2.605 billion), and Germany (714,000 tons of goods worth $2.347 billion) were other four biggest exporters of goods to Iran.

Iran’s imports from China registered a rise by 5 percent in terms of volume and 21 percent in terms of value, year-on-year.

The UAE exports to Iran increased by 42 and 18 percent in terms of value and volume respectively, during the 10-month period.

The Islamic Republic imports from South Korea witnessed a 6 percent rise in terms of value, meanwhile the country’s imports from Turkey increased by 18 percent.

Meanwhile volume of Iran’s imports from Germany registered a 15 percent fall, the value of imports was 19 percent more year-on-year.

The average price for each ton of Iran's imported goods in the mentioned period was around $1,404, indicating a rise of 10 percent.
