Iran has called for switching banking payment systems with Uzbekistan in order to facilitate bilateral trade.

“We are interested in establishing banking ties in the highest levels because this issue is among the main obstacles to widening trade ties with Uzbekistan,” Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Shariatmadari told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting of a joint commission of the two countries for the expansion of economic cooperation in Tehran on Monday.

Saying that Iran has come to a conclusion with Russia to switch banking payment systems which is expected to boost bilateral trade between the two countries, the minister added that Tehran is making efforts to implement a similar agreement with Turkey.

“We believe that we can have the same relation with all neighboring countries including Uzbekistan which is necessary for developing tourism industry,” Mohammad Shariatmadari stated.

Uzbek First Deputy Prime Minister Ochilboy Ramatov, heading an economic delegation, has arrived in Iran on a two-day visit.

According to Ochilboy Ramatov the volume of bilateral trade between the two countries currently stands at $325 million which is expected to reach $500 million.
