Five types of medicines, manufactured in Iran, using the knowledge-based system, was, for the first time, registered in Russia, Sourena Sattari, Iran’s vice president for science and technology, said, Iran's local media outlets reported.

Sattari told reporters said that the Iranian knowledge-based companies have achieved global standards for drugs, oriented towards exports to Russia and European countries.

Satttari added that it’s the first time that the medicines produced by Iranian knowledge-based companies have been registered in a European country, without unveiling the drugs’ name.

The official further said that the Iranian knowledge-based companies exported $450 million worth of products to various countries in the last fiscal year (ended March 2018).

The regulations for knowledge based companies first were publicized in Iran’s parliament in 2003, to promote the country’s knowledge-based economy and the advancement of technology and science in the country.

Back in 2013 there were only two active knowledge-based companies. By 2014 a total of 135 were active and by the end of 2015, 1610 active knowledge-based companies were active in the country and were privileged with special benefits (loans, tax exemptions).

Sattari said that some Iranian knowledge-based companies have reached an annual turnover of 50 trillion rials (each USD makes 42,000 rials), adding that at least 20 Iranian knowledge-based companies have a yearly turnover of over 10 trillion rials worth of products which is unprecedented.

The vice-president referred to startups as an attractive platform for Iranians studying abroad, saying the main part of graduates from countries such as Canada or North America, who return home, will start working on startup projects.

“We should consider international standards in the field of knowledge-based products and encourage novel ideas in this field,” Sattari added.
