Tehran, Iran, July 7

By A. Shirazi - Trend:

Iran exported 62,000 tons of wheat flour in the first three months of the current Iranian fiscal year (started March 21), Deputy Agriculture Minister Yazdan Seif said.

“In the first three months of 1397, we exported 62,000 tons of wheat flour to our neighboring countries,” Seif said on July 7, Fars news agency reported.

He added that the export of the wheat flour has created more than 5,000 jobs inside and outside the country.

Seif also said that the government has purchased 4.8 million tons of wheat from local farmers across the country so far in the current crop year despite low precipitation.

Every year, the government buys certain strategic crops, including wheat, from local farmers at guaranteed prices, to build up its strategic reserves and control prices in the domestic market.

Seif, who is also the head of the Government Trading Corporation, noted that wheat production has experienced an unchanged trend despite a 26 percent decline in rain.

This year’s wheat purchases from local farmers at guaranteed prices began on March 26 in the southeastern Sistan-Baluchestan Province’s Sarbaz County, according to Iranian media.

More than 8.87 million tons of wheat worth 116 trillion rials were purchased from Iranian farmers by the government last year (each USD makes 42,900 rials).
