Iran's Ministry of Energy denies reports on blocking rivers along border with Iraq

The steps taken by Iran over the border rivers are based on agreements and neighborhood principles, Ministry of Energy of Iran said denying the news and rumors about Iran's blocking the rivers on the border with Iraq.

Over the past two days, some Iranian sources have reported that deputy minister of agriculture for land and water issues made statements about stopping the flow of some border rivers in Iran's west and north-west regions.

"Allegations against Iran's Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Water Affairs Ali Murad Akbari that Iran stopped water flow on the Iran-Iraq border on October 9 are denied. The relevant and executive body in this field is the Ministry of Energy," the Iranian Ministry of Energy said in a message.

"In addition, all the steps of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the development of water and land resources in the provinces bordering other countries were taken and will be taken under strict observance of existing agreements with the authorities, legal powers and neighboring countries, and no new steps have been taken," Ministry of Energy added.
