Iranian Railway Company to buy over 2,700 freight wagons

The supply of 45 locomotives, 2,700 freight wagons and 97 passenger carriages is on the agenda of the Iranian Railway Company to develop the country’s railway industry, IRNA cited Deputy Director of the Iranian Railway Company Mojtaba Tafaqodi as saying.

The purchase of electric locomotives is on the company's agenda. The company intends to buy 45 electric locomotives from Russia to use within the Garmsar-Injeburun railway project, as well as 70 electric locomotives from Mapna company to use within the Tehran-Mashhad railway project.

To increase the speed and improve safety of passenger trains, the Iranian Railway Company intends to use the technical capabilities of foreign companies by purchasing passenger carriages running 200km per hour and produced by local manufacturers.
