Iran Customs Administration talks deadline of rice import ban

The Iranian Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has instructed to issue a permit for the registration of rice, given that the ban period of rice import was over, IRNA cited the Iran Customs Administration.

Rice harvesting started in Iran in June of this Iranian year.

The Iran Trade Promotion Organization has announced the deadline for the ban period of rice import on September 22.

About 3.2 million tons of rice are annually consumed in Iran. Meanwhile, 1.7-2 million tons of rice are produced in the country. Rice import reaches 1.2-1.5 million tons for the year. India mainly provides Iran with rice, as do Pakistan, Thailand and Uruguay.

According to the Iran Customs Administration’s statistics, 958,241 tons of rice worth $985,388, 853 were imported to Iran in the first seven months of this Iranian year (started on March 21, 2018).
