This Iranian year (started on March 21, 2018) 88,500 tons of sugar beets were produced in Torbat-e Jam county of Iran’s Razavi Khorasan province, which is 2.5 times more compared to the same period of last Iranian year, Trend reports.
Sugar beets were planted on a 1,950-hectare-area and 45 tons of products were harvested from each hectare, director of agriculture organization of the Torbat-e Jam county of Razavi Khorasan province, Asghar Khoshkhu, said in an interview with IRNA.
He added that this Iranian year, 1 ton of sugar beets were purchased from farmers at 3.12 million rials (about $74.2).
He said that last Iranian year 4,000 hectares were alloted for the cultivation of beet seedlings.
A 145 hectare-area of sugar beets is irrigated via a new irrigation method, Khoshkhu said.
