Iran’s Caspian, Anzali and Astara ports should play a more important role in foreign trade, the Gilan province has this potential and the potential is growing, Gilan province governor Mostafa Salari said, Trend reports via IRNA.

He was speaking at a ceremony dedicated to the transportation of the first freight from China’s Ningbo port to Iran’s Caspian Port in the Anzali Free Trade Zone.

He said that this cargo was transported from China to Aktau port of Kazakhstan by rail and via the Caspian Sea and the Caspian Port.

He added that China-Kazakhstan-Iran new trade corridor is an opportunity for Iran’s northern ports.

“We hope that through the new corridor, the foreign trade potential for imports and exports will increase and the freight traffic to the countries in the north and west will grow and conditions will be created for the positive balance of the Iranian trade,” he said.

Rasht-Anzali railway project has an effective role in reducing costs and transporting goods, he noted.

Because cargo transportation by sea and rail is cheap, Gilan’s connecting to the railways is an important issue, he said. Improving corridors increases competitiveness and reduces shipping costs and time, he added.
