Iran - fifth biggest cement manufacturer worldwide

Over the past 40 years, Iran's cement industry has been greatly developed, spokesman for Iran's cement association Abdolreza Sheikhan said.
Presently, Iran is the fifth biggest cement producer in the world after China, India, US and Brazil, Sheikhan added, Trend reports referring to Mizan News Agency.
He added that 17 million tons of cement were produced in 1991, 29.5 million tons - in 2001, 70.5 million tons - in 2011. From 2011 up until 2018, the average production of cement in the country reached 87 million tons.
Presently, 77 cement production plants operate in Iran. Thirty-three percent of those plants were established by the private companies, Sheikhan said.
He said that Iran’s Isfahan province is leading in the cement production volume and the number of cement production plants.
Six cement production plants produce eight million tons of cement in that province, Sheikhan said.
Moreover, 4.5 million tons of clinker and 4.5 million tons of cement were exported during nine months of this Iranian year (started on March 21, 2018), he added.
Iran's cement is exported to 17 countries. Cement is mainly exported to Afghanistan while clinker - to Bangladesh, he said.
Commenting on an increase in cement production, Sheikhan said that the cement production is expected to increase up to 100 million tons till 2025.
