Iran establishing National Association of Medicinal Plants

The Iran Central Organization for Rural Cooperatives will establish the National Association of Medicinal Plants to increase export and employment, Iranian Deputy Agriculture Minister Hossein Shirzad said.

Medicinal plants are important in the field of agriculture, Shirzad added, Trend reports referring to the website of the Iran Central Organization for Rural Cooperatives.

Presently, the share of medicinal plants in the world trade is $107 billion. According to the forecasts, this figure will exceed $405 billion in 2025, he said.

Last Iranian year (started on March 21, 2017) Iran exported saffron worth $324 million to the European countries.

The sown area of ​​medicinal plants should reach 500,000 hectares till 2025. Moreover, 85 percent of medicinal plants used in Iran can be produced in the country.
