The Iranian Customs Administration said that bringing foreign currency at any amount to Iran is free for individuals and legal entities, and no security, law enforcement or customs authority has the right to hinder it, Trend reports referring to Mehr News Agency.

Ali Magouli, the director general of the Import, Special and Free Zones Department of Iran's Customs Administration, announced this in instructions addressed to the chief customs officers and observers at the Iranian Customs.

It was stated in the instruction that, according to the decision made during the meeting of Iran’s Supreme Council of Economic Coordination on bringing currency to the country, hindering the bringing of foreign currency is considered a violation of the law. Persons violating the law will be suspended for a period of 6 months, and more severe penalties will be imposed in repeated cases.

Citizens coming to Iran are not required to submit a customs clearance for bringing currency up to 10,000 euros (incl. equivalents in other currencies). However, if the mentioned amount is exceeded, citizens should disclose the amount of the currency to the customs.

Sending and receiving unnamed bank documents and/or securities worth more than 5,000 euros (incl. equivalents other currencies) via post or money transfers is prohibited. Should the aforementioned laws be violated, penalties disclosed in Iran’s Goods and Currencies Smuggling Law are to be applied.
