Consecutively elected Iranian MPs banned from running for elections

According to the decision of the Iranian parliament, Iranian MPs who have been 3 times consecutively elected are to be banned from the next parliamentary elections, Trend reports referring to ISNA.

Iranian parliamentarians have reviewed and approved the corresponding proposal made by Iranian MP Hossein Amiri Khamkani (himself elected 5 times).

With the new decision, these deputies will not be able to attend a single round of elections and will have to wait for the following election to be able to nominate their candidacy.

Mohammad Reza Tabesh, another 5-time consecutively elected MP, said that this decision will allow to provide young people with more opportunities in the legislative field.

Thus, the following 34 of the current deputies of the Iranian parliament will not be able to run for the next elections: Ali Larijani (Speaker of the Parliament), Mohammad Ashuri Taziani, Esfandiar Ekhtiari, Hossein Amiri Khamkani, Aziz Akbarian, Mehrdad Bauj Lahuti, Yonathan Betkolia, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Masoud Pezeshkian, Mohammad Reza Tabesh, Kazem Jalali, Shahbaz Hasanpour Biglari, Hassan Khastehband, Mohammad Dehghan, Mohammad Rezaei Kuchi, Alireza Salimi, Hossein Ali Shahriari, Hadi Shushtari, Mohammad Qasim Osmani, Mohammad Hossein Farhangi, Hamidreza Fouladgar, Amir-Hossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi, Nader Ghazipour, Hadi Gavami, Hassan Kamran-Dastjerdi, Jabbar Kuchekinezhad, Javad Karimi-Ghodousi, Mohammad Mehdi Mofatteh, Alireza Mahjoub, Ali Motahari, Siamak Moreh Sedgh, Naser Mousavi Largani, Hossein Naghavi-Hosseini, Ezzatollah Yousefian Molla.

The next parliamentary elections in Iran will be held on Feb. 21, 2020.
