By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

Consumers around the world receive only 10 percent of saffron produced in Iran in the packaging by Iranian companies, said Mohsen Ehtesham, chairman of Iran’s Saffron National Council, Trend reports via ISNA.

He said that more than 95 percent of the saffron in the world is produced in Iran.

He added that 90 percent of Iran’s saffron is exported as raw material.

Noting that packaging in accordance with the requirements in the global markets is one of the priorities of Iran’s Saffron National Council, he said that Iran couldn’t become a country regulating saffron prices in the world.

"The Saffron National Council of Iran seeks to prevent the sale of saffron as raw material and to create value added for this product,” he said.

By creating value added for saffron, employment can be increased, he noted. That’s because export of competitive products can easily create jobs, he added.

He said about 60 tons of saffron is produced annually in South Khorasan province in northeastern Iran.
