The Iran Power Generation and Transmission Company (TAVANIR) has made a decision to cut the companies producing cryptocurrency off electricity, Trend reports referring to Tasnim News Agency.

The companies producing cryptocurrency do not have licenses and, according to the TAVANIR’s decision, they must pay for the consumed electricity upon a certain tariff. According to the report, these companies do not comply with necessary technical standards. Furthermore, the electric power distribution stations face big problems in electricity distribution at peak hours.

Taking this into account, these companies should be temporarily disconnected from the electricity network until all the issues are resolved, the company said.

The Iranian Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade are trying to prevent electricity shortage this summer, as there is a risk that electricity consumption will exceed 2,000 megawatts per day at peak hours in Iran. This may cause problems for the electricity system in the country, the report said.
