Iranian banker: Amount of interbank transactions exceeds liquidity volume 10 times

The total amount of interbank transactions in Iran exceeds the total liquidity volume ten times, Governor of Iran’s Central Bank (CBI) Abdolnaser Hemmati wrote in his Instagram account, Trend reports.

He said that one of the important programs of the Central Bank of Iran is the development of new banking as well as creation and development of technological infrastructure of banking and payment systems.

He added that the total amount of interbank transactions in Iran in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2018 - March 20, 2019) was 210 quadrillion rials (about $5 trillion).

Shaparak Electronic Card Payment Network and Shetab Interbank Information Exchange Network account for nearly 80 billion transactions worth 65.5 quadrillion rials (about $1.55 trillion).

Automated Clearing House (ACH) Network accounted for 1.4 billion transactions worth 33 quadrillion rials (about $785 billion). Transactions in SATNA immediate payment service accounted for 75.5 quadrillion rials (about $1.79 trillion). Exchange of checks worth 39.8 quadrillion rials (about $947 billion) was carried out in Iran’s check payment system, while 53 million transactions were related to issuance of checks for traveling services.
