Iran will create a large company for saffron production within the upcoming two upcoming years, Hossein Zeynali, medical plants project manager of Iran's Agricultural Jihad Ministry, said, Trend reports via Mehr News Agency.

According to Zeynali, trading with this company alone will be enough for the world countries to meet their need for saffron.

The ministry representative noted that in 2007-2019 (from March 21, 2007 to March 21, 2019), Iran's saffron output increased from 230 to 404 tons.

"It is planned that this year production will increase by another 30 tons and reach 434 tons. Last year, 280 tons of saffron worth $351 million were exported," Zeynali said. "This year, about 50 percent of saffron is planted using agricultural machinery."

About 95 percent of the world's saffron output falls on Iran's share.
