Iran's National Development Fund will provide 300 million euros to Zahedan-Chabahar railway project, as the country seeks to connect its routes to Azerbaijan, Deputy Head of Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company Ali Khatibi told Trend.

"We are seeking to provide resources for this project, efforts have been taken in cooperation with Plan and Budget Organization, and the government and the National Development Fund have issued a permit for use of €300 million for this project. The amount was approved by the cabinet, and the decision was announced to Ministry of Road and Urban Development," the deputy head added.

"The negotiations with Azerbaijan are underway, and we are following the situation to see whether they reach positive results," Khatibi said referring to negotiations with Azerbaijan over Rasht-Astara railway project.

"The Parsabad-Ardebil railway project was also discussed. The Ministry of Road and Urban Development is working on it; however, since the issue has not been finalized, its implementation is not on the agenda at the moment," he noted.

The deputy head went on to say: "Ardebil-Mianeh railway is also part of our plans and the project is promising. It is implemented through financing by Central Bank of Iran. After commissioning, it will be connected from Ardebil to Parsabad."

The construction of Ardebil-Parsabad railway and its further connection to Azerbaijan has been on the agenda since past decade. A considerable volume of trade transaction between Iran and Azerbaijan is done via Ardebil border, so it the issue of connecting Ardebil to Azerbaijan via railway has been considered.
