Milk production is expected to reach 11 million tons in Iran in the current Iranian year (began on March 21, 2019), Iranian Deputy Agriculture Ministry Murtaza Rezaee said, Trend reports citing IANA.

According to the deputy minister, almost 50 percent of the milk output account for the genetically modified cows of modern industrial farms.

The deputy minister added that remaining 50 percent of the output will be provided by local and crossbreed cows, while milk of sheep, goats and buffalos will account for only an insignificant share.

Iran milk production equals to that of the US, Rezaee said, adding that on average, each cow in Iran gives 33 kilograms of milk per day which means over 10 tons of milk in a milking period of 305 days.
