Iran has so far produced 28,519 tons of dry tea leaves since the beginning of this year (March 21, 2019), Chairman of the Iran Tea Organization Habib Jahansaz said, Trend reports referring to IANA news agency (Iranian Agriculture News Agency).
Jahansaz said that tea production increased by 11 percent compared to the same period last year, adding that tea leaves worth 3.43 trillion rials (about $81.7 million) were purchased from farmers in Iran’s Gilan and Mazandaran provinces this year.
The chairman noted that 57,200 tons of the purchased tea leaves are of the first grade and 69,500 tons are of the second grade.
“So far, 2.7 trillion rials (about $64.2 million) have been paid to tea farmers,” Jahansaz added. “The remaining amount will be paid gradually.”
