BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 13

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

The Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) has abolished dues on 11 products imported from Iran, said Head of Iran's National Association of Agricultural Products Reza Nourani, Trend reports citing Fars news agency.

According to Nourani, these products are mainly potatoes, onions, garlic, cabbage, carrots, peppers, juice, wheat, rye, rice and ready meals for babies.

Nourani added that with the abolition of dues on these products, Iran's exports to the Eurasian Economic Union are expected to increase. A number of infrastructures must be created for this.

"As for infrastructure, there must be refrigerated containers to be used in railway transport. At least, refrigerated containers should be purchased or rented from Russia and Turkey,” he said.

A temporary trade memorandum was signed between Iran and the EEU on October 27, 2019. In accordance with the memorandum, 862 kinds of products will be imported and exported upon preferential tariffs between the two sides.

Under the agreement, Iran will export 502 types of products and import 360 kinds of products.

Iran will mainly export pistachios, kiwi, oil products, raisins, cucumbers, cabbages, dates, medicines, cement, copper and methanol to EEU. In turn, the country will primarily import mainly import barley, animal feed, vegetable oil and cathodes from the union's member states.

Iran's trade turnover with the Eurasian Economic Union member states exceeded $1.48 billion in about five months (October 27, 2019 to March 24, 2020). Some 67 percent of trade turnover is related to imports and 33 percent to exports.
