Trade turnover between Iran, Turkey down

As many as 6,300 wagons transported cargo between Iran and Turkey from the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020) to May 29, said Spokesman for Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi, Trend reports citing IRICA.

According to Latifi, Iranian products were exported to Turkey by 3,072 wagons.

The spokesman added that Turkish products were imported to Iran by 3,228 wagons.

"At present, trade between the two countries is carried out only through the Razi railway customs. According to officials of the two countries, the air and land borders may open in the coming days," he said.

The spokesman said that Turkey has closed the Bazargan border customs for Iranian trucks since February 22. During this period, 6,690 tons of products were transported to Turkey by transit trucks from other countries.

The Iran's exports to Turkey amounted to $72 million in the first month of the current Iranian year (March 20-April 19, 2020). Turkey's share in Iran's exports stood at 4.4 percent, which is a decrease of 48.6 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year.

During that period, Iran imported $246 million worth of products from Turkey. Turkey's share in Iran's imports was 12.8 percent, which is a decrease of 27.2 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year.
