Iran aims to increase steel production

TEHRAN, Iran, Aug.3

Iran's steel production is expected to increase by 26 million tons in current Iranian year (started March 20, 2020), said Iranian President

"The country's steel production units have the capacity to produce 16 million tons, while 10 million tons will be produced following construction of new units," said Hassan Rouhani, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"Currently, Iran is completely self-sufficient in steel supplies, and it is expected to launch new lines for production of glass, crystal and sodium carbonate to meet domestic demands," the head of state said.

"Public and private sector should work together to improve production," he added.

The Iranian president has inaugurated MDF development plan of Arian Chemical Company at Mazandaran province and rebar production at Rouhina Steel Company in Khuzestan Province via video conference.

"These projects are important for the country's economy and non-oil export. In the steel industry, we are finalizing production cycle, and more steel production units will operate in Khorramshahr in the future," the head of state said.

"The inaugurated projects worth $130 million allow for production of wood, steel and detergent materials. Each project will create 2,000 direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs," he added.

Iranian steelmakers produced 47.42 million tons of semi-finished and finished steel products in the last Iranian year that (started March 21, 2019).
