Iran to legally follow enforcement of Boeing contracts

TEHRAN, Iran, April. 12

Trend:

The Minister of Road and Urban Development if Iran announced the possibility of legal follow-up of contracts for the purchase of aircraft from Boeing, which was suspended due to the withdrawal of the United States from JCPOA.

“Iran Air and the companies that had the contract with Boeing naturally have rights to which the contracting party must be held accountable,” the Minister of Road and Urban Development of Iran, Mohammad Eslami said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

In 2016, Boeing announced an order for 80 brand new aircraft, including a mix of widebodies and narrowbodies, Iran Air planned a fleet transition to newer jets after being shut out from taking new aircraft due to economic sanctions. However, when those sanctions were reinstated in 2018, it threw Iran Air’s order in doubt. Now, as Iran and the US are set to resume talks that could lift the sanctions, Iran Air’s order could be back on the books for Boeing.
