Trend:

Iran's renewable power plants production capacity reached between 880 to 890 megawatt last Iranian year (started March 20,2020), Deputy of Planning and Development of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA) Jafar Mohammadnejad Sigaroudi told Trend.

"About 49 percent of these power plants are solar, 35 percent are wind power plants , 12 percent are small water plants and the remaining 4 percent are thermal power plants that generate electricity,"Sigaroudi said.

"The number of generators in small solar power plants, i.e. power plants installed on rooftops, are 5,000, which is a considerable amount, despite all economic issues," he said.

"The advantage of renewable energy development is reducing fossil fuel emission that is source of pollution," he said.

"The studies of technical department in SATBA by March 21,2021 indicated due to development of renewable power plants natural gas consumption reduced by 1,679 million cubic meters and these renewable power plants prevented 3,980 tons of greenhouse gas emissions," he said.

"Another advantage of setting up renewable plants has to do with reduce of water consumption, in comparison to fossil fuel plants," he said.

"There is almost zero water consumption in renewable power plants and studies show that compared to regular power plants, the renewable plants managed to reduce water consumption by more than 1,300 million liters," Sigaroudi said.
