Iran to pass new water law bill

TEHRAN, Iran, May.16

Trend:

The Iranian government is expected to submit the water law bill to the parliament, said the deputy minister of energy.

There has been intersection work between all organizations over compatibly with water shortage and drafting the law in this regard is a big work, said Ghassem Taghizadeh Khamesi, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"The work has almost been completed and only two cases require the government permit so provinces would have the authority over the issue," he said.

"It was necessary to act in the integration of water and sewage companies in cities and villages to change water structures. The meetings between former ministers of energies and academics have led to a new structure that its main principle is water," Khamesi noted.

There are serious limitations in water sovereignty that requires the draft of a cohesive law to resolve the shortcoming regulations to have an effect on efficient sovereignty of water resources.

The Ministry of Energy agenda for the development of water infrastructures was to work on related mechanism and inauguration of water projects where it operated 53 water projects in last Iranian year (started March 20, 2020) while it has also put the drafting of water law bill on its agenda by using knowledge of experts.

The following bill about water issues has been suggested to the government on May 8 and is currently being reviewed by the infrastructure, industry, and environment commission and expected to be sent to the parliament.
