Iranian official explains restrictions for visiting Iran during COVID-19

TEHRAN, Iran, July 30

Trend:

The visits of tourists to Iran are still banned, however those traveling with different visas, students for example, or those who come for trade or treatment, are allowed, Deputy Tourism Minister Vali Teymouri told Trend.

Referring to the ministry's plan to expand the tourism sector of Iran, Teymouri said the issuance of tourist visas has been practically banned until today, according to the order of the National Committee on Combating Coronavirus from spring of 2020.

"In the meantime, we have lifted some restrictions for certain groups in the form of agreements,” Teymouri explained. "There is no problem in traveling to Iran by business visa at the moment."

He added that foreign nationals currently enter the country with different types of visas other than tourism.

“Foreigners who seek to visit relatives, students or those who are seeking health tourism are exceptions,” said the official.

Explaining the medical tourist visa, he said that "Iran had foreign nationals who had started their medical treatment in the country before the COVID-19 outbreak."

Teymouri referred to other cases of lifting the visa ban and said that Iran made exceptions for students as well.

He continued that from April 2020 until today, according to the approval of the National Committee on Combating Coronavirus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not issue tourist visas.
