Trend:

Iran is working to speed up construction of solar power plants across the country, spokesman of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization(SATBA) Jafar Mohammadnejad Sigaroudi told Trend.

"SATBA is prepared to support the construction of solar power plants in villages by offering loans with a low-interest rate," Sigaroudi noted.

He went on to point out that solar panels have been installed on rooftops of buildings where lower-income families live.

"The goal is to raise farmers' income, since they stopped farming due to water shortage," he said.

The statistics of the first six months of the current Iranian year(started March 21, 2021) indicate that 700 solar panels have been working on homes, generating 5 to 20-kilowatt of electricity.

"Meanwhile, solar systems with higher production capacity have been installed on facilities of industrial sector," he said.

Power distribution companies in Iran are allowed to sign contract with solar farms. Iranian officialsforecast the number of such contracts will be growing.

Iran's Ministry of Energy has recently announced a plan to increase the country's power generation capacity to 30,000 megawatts in the next four years.
