Senior MP: P5+1 should build confidence through removal of Iran sanctions

Senior Iranian lawmaker Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel says the six major world powers involved in negotiations with Iran (P5+1) should take confidence-building steps by working for the removal of the sanctions imposed against Tehran, Press TV reported.

The ineffectiveness of these sanctions has been proved to the Western leaders, and the other party could take a confidence-building step to prove its good intentions, said Haddad-Adel who is also an advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

"[However,] it should not be expected that all issues will be resolved in Baghdad," added the Iranian official, referring to the upcoming round of the Iran-P5+1 talks in the Iraqi capital.

The official expressed hope that the Baghdad talks would continue in the same fashion as the last round of the negotiations in Istanbul.

Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Sunday that the Istanbul talks marked the "beginning of the end" to Tehran's nuclear case.

Salehi expressed hope that the next meeting in Baghdad would be even more successful than the Istanbul talks.

Iran and the P5+1 (Britain, France, Russia, China and the United States plus Germany) wrapped up the latest round of their negotiations on April 14 in the Turkish city of Istanbul, and both sides hailed the multifaceted talks as constructive.

Iraq will host the next round of the talks on May 23.
