Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Russia to take part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting in Russia.

Iran's ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei wrote on his Facebook page on June 3 that Zarif would attend the SCO meeting on June 4 as an observer state.

Zarif will negotiate the nuclear issue with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov as well.

On June 3 to 4 Moscow will host the SCO Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs Meeting.

Participants will focus on preparations for the upcoming SCO Heads of State Council Meeting to be held on July 9-10 in Ufa. They will also finalize the following draft documents to be submitted for consideration by SCO leaders: the SCO Development Strategy towards 2025, the Ufa Declaration, the information statement, the statement by SCO heads of state on the 70th anniversary of Victory over Nazism in World War II, the statement by SCO heads of state on the drug threat and the agreement on SCO cooperation on border issues.

The ministers will also share their opinions on pressing issues on the international and regional agenda.

Iran and the P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) reached a mutual understanding on Tehran's nuclear program in the Swiss city of Lausanne on April 2. The parties have agreed to finalize a comprehensive deal on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program by the end of June.

A new round of meetings for drafting a nuclear deal will begin in Vienna on June 4.
