Iran is going to hold an inauguration ceremony for its medical stable isotope products in less than one month, according to Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Director Ali Akbar Salehi.
The task of producing the isotopes was a great undertaking which has now borne fruit, that is, the products are made and the ceremony will be held at the Fordow facility where they are produced, Salehi told the IRIB TV on Sept. 30.
He said Iran is currently producing heavy stable isotopes, but it is considering the production of light stable isotopes as well.
Stable isotopes are non-radioactive atoms of the same chemical element, which differ only in their number of neutrons.
More than 6,000 stable isotope labeled compounds (tracers) are commercially available for use in metabolic studies.
Stable isotopes are noteworthy for their negligible side effects in medical usage.
