TEHRAN, Iran, Nov.11
Trend:
Spokesman for Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has announced possible return to former Arak reactor.
"If the other side delays the reconstruction of reactor or provision of equipment and facilities we will return to former Arak reactor. Currently, we work with China, but the US exerts pressure on this country," said Behrouz Kamalvandi at a press conference, Trend reports citing ILNA.
"Iran has operated based on predicted plans in third step, while the other side did not follow their commitments; so we are no longer committed to 300 kilo enriched uranium and added them to our reserves," the spokesman said
"Total of 15 centrifuges are currently working, although the machines have high capacities. The reason to install new machinery is that it improves enrichment. We have 25 tons of enriched uranium and transferred two tons to Fordow," Kamalvandi said
"Fordow has two wings in uranium enrichment section: one is active and the other stores the collected centrifuges, in case is the next generation of centrifuges will be upgraded," he said.
"From now on injecting gas to cycles will start and then the sustainability of cycles will be evaluated; every phase is monitored by IAEA, and it can be said that we have left the article 44 of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action," he added.
Iran will start injecting uranium gas into hundreds of centrifuges at its Fordow facility in the latest step away from the crumbling nuclear deal with world powers, since the United States withdrew from the landmark accord last year.
Iranian President Rouhani said that all the steps Iran has taken so far are reversible and Tehran will uphold all of its commitments under the deal when the remaining signatories do the same.
