Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has stressed the importance of concrete placing operations at second unit of Bushehr Nuclear Plant.

"Iran's leader has mentioned that nuclear energy is important, as it will guarantee energy for next generations. While the fossil energy will be over soon, the energy should be provided continuously," said Ali Akbar Salehi, Trend reports from the ceremony on commencing the concrete placing.

"The leader has stated the outlook is 20,000 megawatt nuclear plant, and the other issue is to transform nuclear industry," the official said.

"Enemies seek to prevent us from obtaining sources of power, and we are facing serious challenges. The nuclear energy is clean energy; each megawatt power produced by nuclear plants would prevent spread of 7 million tons of greenhouse gas. By 2027, Iran will have 3,000 megawatt nuclear energy that will prevent emission of 21 million tons of greenhouse gas," Salehi added.

"The fossil fuel plants use 11 million barrels of crude oil per year to produce 1,000 megawatt energy. Presuming that have three 3 nuclear plants, we can save 33 million barrels per year," the head of AEOI said referring to importance of Paris Environmental agreements.

"The saving can reach $660 million, but, unfortunately the situation is not that we profit from every value added in Bushehr Nuclear Plant due to wrong decisions. "It has been promised by MPs that more value added will be provided to nuclear projects in the budget for next Iranian year [begins March 21, 2020]," the official added.

"At the Bushehr plant, the repair works and equipment installation was done by Iranian experts; 2,000 specialists work at the plant. Iran is ready to transfer its experience to the Persian Gulf countries initiating a new approach in using nuclear energy," said Salehi.

"Bushehr Nuclear Plant has the complete security that is provided by the military forces; in addition, its safety is under supervision of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO)," he noted.

"More than 1,850 cubic meter were been excavated and 200,000 cubic meter of soil were improved at the first unit of Bushehr plant. We hope that project is completed in time fast, total of 1,200 people work in this project," the official said adding that in the future, the number of employees will increase to 13,000 people including 10,000 Iranians.

In his words, the construction and infrastructure was done by Iranian contractors, and Russia's Atomstroyexport company (ASE) helped Iran in technology.

"The project on the first unit of the plant was implemented in close cooperation with Russians; we have conducted various work in scientific field and in producing isotopes," Salehi said.

Atomstroyexport is the Russian Federation's nuclear power equipment and service exporter. It is a fully owned subsidiary of Rosatom.
