TEHRAN, Iran, Feb.4
Trend:
While the Iranian MP's have presented the bill to exit the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to parliament, the plan is on hold since Europe has stopped using trigger mechanism, said a member of parliament nuclear committee.
Mohammad Ebrahim Rezaie discussed the plan to leave NPT and recent decision of Iran to reduce commitments to Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in an interview with Trend.
"The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action is practically reached the end of the line due to lack of commitments by the US and Europe," Rezaie said. "The Islamic republic of Iran has reduced its commitment to JCPOA, to be equal, step by step, to the other sides."
"Following the Europe violation of JCPOA commitments and use of trigger mechanism, members of Iran's parliaments decided to prepare the bill to leave NPT. It was known that if the other side uses the trigger mechanism, the parliament will consider exiting NPT. However, as the Europeans have stopped the use of trigger mechanism, Iranian MPs have suspended the bill until the further notice," the member of parliament nuclear committee added.
"Although this bill was signed by 47 MPs, the final approval of the bill depends on western side," Rezaie noted adding that it is understood that Iran is serious about leaving NPT.
Iranian MPs have discussed the bill to leave NPT on January 28. The Islamic republic of Iran previously has threatened to leave NPT, but it has never taken serious step in this regard.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said earlier that in case the European countries send Iran's nuclear program to the UN Security Council, Iran would review the decision to leave NPT.
