Iran shouldn't accept limitations until JCPOA parties comply with commitments - ex-AEOI chief

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec.15

Trend:

Iran should not accept any limitations until all the participating parties within the JCPOA comply with their commitments, former head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization Fereydoon Abbasi told Trend.

"I think that it is meaningless that someone wants to destroy our centrifuges," he said. "We're not criminals that they want to disarm."

"We voluntarily accepted some restrictions and removed our centrifuges to storage, under the surveillance of the IAEA," Abbasi said. "Some centrifuges remained inactive, others stayed as they were, but no gas was injected into them, and hexafluoride was never in that area."

At the same time, Abbasi said that Iran can return back to its nuclear work, based on its capabilities, unless the JCPOA commitments aren't fulfilled.

"The JCPOA signatories did not comply with their commitments, the Iranian government was obligated to implement the parliament's law, known as the strategic action plan," he explained.

"If we reach an agreement and other sides comply with their commitments and Iran verifies it, then the JCPOA will be implemented as agreed," said Abbasi.
