Iranian commander says White House supports ISIL

Tehran, Iran, September 14

Commander of Iran's Volunteer Basij Forces Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi said that the White House is leading the ISIL militant group.

"Washington has created the ISIL terrorist group to carry out its plots in the Middle East," Naqdi said, Iran's Fars News Agency reported on September 14.

"The United States is seeking to expand its military presence in the region under the pretext of fighting the Takfiri group," he added.

"The US paved the way for the formation of the ISIL in an effort to portray a distorted image of Islam and stir up sectarian divisions among Muslims," he explained.

He further called on all Muslims to maintain their unity and avoid issues that fuel religious conflicts.

The US president Barack Obama earlier this week announced his new strategy for fighting ISIL millitants in Syria and Iraq.

The new strategy includes arming anti-Damascus group who also fight with the ISIL, as well as carrying out airstrikes in Syria and Iraq.
